From my observations in the Fisher-Price® on-site Play Lab, I have found most children learn to pedal between the ages of 2 and 3 years. When using foot-to-floor ride-ons, toddlers usually learn to push backward before they propel the ride-on forward. Surprisingly, basic steering could be learned as early as 12 months of age, starting with foot-to-floor ride-ons and even slow-moving powered ride-ons. Children learn to move the ride-on in the direction they want to go, and quickly learn how to maneuver it around—turning it right and left, going forward and backward, then stopping at will. The ride-on becomes an extension of their feet! It also provides a fun physical activity, which sparks lots of imaginative play.
