Snack Cones Bugs on a Log Fruit 'n' Crunch Parfait Monkey Milk

WEEK 1. SNACK CONES
Give the kids a fun-to-eat snack that can be refilled or gobbled up completely!
Ages:
3 and up
(Okay for 1 to 3 years if you use O-shaped cereal or just the cone)
Servings:
6
Ingredients:
  • 6 plain wafer ice cream cones
  • Variety of cereals, preferably sugar-free
  • Optional: raisins, coconut, fish crackers, animal crackers, animal-shaped graham crackers
What to do:
  1. Set out 6 ice cream cones.
  2. Combine cereals and other small treats in a large bowl and mix well.
  3. Spoon cereal mixture into cones to just under the top edge.
  4. Let the kids eat the contents with their fingers, then eat the cone when they're done.

WEEK 2. BUGS ON A LOG
Let the kids help make these whimsical treats, full of good nutrition. Try other "bugs" besides the ones suggested below.
Ages:
2 and up
(Under 2, just serve cheese slices with fish crackers on top)
Servings:
6
Ingredients:
  • 3 celery sticks
  • 1 cup peanut butter, cream cheese, or cheese spread, low fat preferred
  • 36 raisins (or small fish crackers, olive slices, or cereal bits)
What to do:
  1. Wash celery sticks and cut them in half.
  2. Fill hollow of each stick with peanut butter, cream cheese, or cheese spread, and smooth it flat.
  3. Dot with 6 raisins or other "bugs" and serve.

WEEK 3. FRUIT 'N' CRUNCH PARFAIT
Turn plain yogurt into a pretty parfait full of fruit and crunch. They are "munch" more fun to eat!
Ages:
2 and up
(Under 2, omit the additions and just serve yogurt)
Servings:
6
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups plain yogurt, low fat preferred
  • Strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and/or peaches
  • Crunchy cereal or granola
What to do:
  1. Set out 6 small bowls or cups.
  2. Spoon a layer of yogurt into the bottom of each cup.
  3. Chop fruit into small bites.
  4. Sprinkle on a layer of fruit and crunchy bites.
  5. Repeat, with a layer of yogurt and a layer of fruit and crunch.
  6. Serve to kids with small spoons.

WEEK 4. MONKEY MILK
Power up the milk with a monkey's favorite fruit - bananas!
Ages:
2 and up
(Under 2, add more milk so it's not too thick)
Servings:
6
Ingredients:
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 cups nonfat milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla (optional)
  • 6 ice cubes
What to do:
  1. Peel a banana, break into chunks, and place in blender.
  2. Add 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 3 ice cubes.
  3. Whirl until smooth and frothy.
  4. Pour into 3 glasses.
  5. Repeat for 3 more servings.
  6. Serve with wide straw for added fun.
