| Serve these frosty, refreshing Jack O'Lanterns during your October playgroup and share some Halloween fun and food with the kids. |
 |
| 2 and up |
 |
| 6 |
 |
- 6 oranges
- 6 cups orange juice
|
- Cut the tops off the oranges with a knife, using a zigzag cut, to make the top of the Jack O'Lantern.
- Carefully squeeze out the juice and remove the pulp, keeping the orange intact.
- Rinse and dry the orange shells.
- Draw a Jack O'Lantern face on each orange shell, using a permanent black marker. Allow the marker to dry.
- Mix the juice from the oranges with more orange juice to make 6 cups.
- Pour the juice into the shells.
- Set the shells in the freezer for an hour or so, until partially frozen. (Or freeze until firm, then microwave to soften.)
- Remove from freezer and break up chunks with a fork to make slushies.
- Serve to the kids with spoons. Give them napkins to hold onto the orange shells, if they're cold.
- If you prefer, pour orange juice into the shells and serve with straws.
