Stuffed Hearts

Gather your cherubs for a little Valentine’s Day fun. This heartfelt craft is a great way for you and your darlings to share love and affection. Creating these colorful hearts with your kids will be extra-special because they’re homemade with love. Add some hugs and kisses for the whole family to enjoy what Valentine’s Day is made of.

Materials

  • Large sheets of paper (each at least 2 square feet)
  • Tape or stapler
  • Markers, crayons, paint, and/or paintbrushes
  • Child's blunt-tip safety scissors
  • Newspaper, tissue paper, or other paper scraps
  • Hole punch and yarn (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay a sheet of paper on top of another and tape or staple the edges together to hold the pieces securely together for the next 2 steps.
  2. Draw the outline of a heart on one side of the paper.
  3. Cut along the outline to make two cut-outs.
  4. Tape or staple the edges of the cut-outs together, leaving an opening along one edge.
  5. Let your child color or paint both sides of the heart red, white, and/or pink.
  6. Crumple up newspaper and stuff the heart with it.
  7. Staple the opening shut.
  8. If you like, punch a hole in the top of the shape.
  9. Loop yarn through the hole and hang the heart from a wall or ceiling.

Safety

Adult participation needed for use of stapler and hole punch.
