Kwanzaa Cutouts

Materials

  • Scrap paper
  • Black, red, and green construction paper
  • Child's blunt-tip safety scissors
  • Glue

Instructions

  1. Use scrap paper to show your child how to cut out designs by folding the paper over and over and cutting shapes from the folds (geometric shapes like circles, squares, and triangles work well).
  2. Have your child fold the black paper and cut shapes from the folds.
  3. Unfold the black paper and point out the shapes of the openings where your child has cut out the paper.
  4. When her design is complete, show her how to cut pieces from the red and green paper to fit behind spaces in the black paper.
  5. Glue the pieces into place to create a colorful piece of art.
