Beastly Bats

Materials

  • Black tempera or acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Clothespin (not one with a spring)
  • Black construction paper
  • Pencil or marker
  • Child's blunt-tip safety scissors
  • Glue
  • Red tempera or acrylic paint (optional)
  • String

Instructions

  1. Paint the clothespin black and allow it to dry.
  2. Fold the paper in half so the short edges meet and draw the outline of a bat wing, starting and ending the outline at the fold.
  3. Cut out the wings, but don’t cut the fold.
  4. Unfold the wings, squeeze glue along the outside fold, then press the wings onto the clothespin.
  5. If you like, add two dots of red paint to the clothespin for eyes.
  6. Tie a string to the bat and hang it from the ceiling.
