Painted Sticks

Materials

  • Paintbrushes
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Tempera or acrylic paints in assorted colors
  • Colored construction paper
  • Rubber bands

Instructions

  1. Let your child paint popsicle sticks in assorted colors.
  2. When the sticks are dry, have him use them in the following ways:
  3. Mix up the sticks and sort them into piles by color.
  4. Lay out colored construction paper. Match the sticks to the paper by color.
  5. Count the sticks that have been sorted by color. Place the piles of sticks in order from fewest to most.
  6. Use rubber bands to group the sticks by twos, fives, and tens. Practice counting by twos, fives, and tens.

Safety

Only use rubber bands with children over 3 years of age.
