Table Rubbings

Materials

  • Scissors
  • Heavy cardboard
  • Masking tape or poster putty (optional)
  • Large sheet of paper
  • Several crayons, papers removed

Instructions

  1. Cut geometric shapes, letters, and numbers from heavy cardboard (or buy them pre-cut from an educational supply store).
  2. Arrange the cut-outs randomly on a table, using some rolled-up masking tape or poster putty to hold them in place, if you like.
  3. Cover the table with the paper.
  4. Give your child several crayons.
  5. Show her how to rub the crayons sideways over the paper and see the shapes appear.
  6. If you like, move the paper and rub again.
  7. Have fun identifying the shapes, letters, and numbers.
  8. Display the paper or use it as gift-wrap.
