Farmer’s Markets

Farmer’s markets are a great place for you and your grandchild to take in the colors and freshness of the season. As you stroll the aisles, make the excursion a fun lesson in agriculture by pointing out the different fruits and vegetables to your grandchild. If she’s older, ask her to name them. Show her some that grow out of the ground and some that grow on trees. Finally, cap off your visit with a purchase of seasonal produce. When you return home, she can help you bake a pie or cobbler. Together, enjoy the “fruits” of your labor!
Tips: When cooking with young children, give them only age-appropriate tasks – as well as a bib or apron. Always keep them away from sharp utensils and the stove.
