You’ll probably be able to remember your first day at school. Whether you were a super-confident child or achingly timid, your first day will have been daunting for you. As such, preparing your child for school requires more than familiarising him with numbers and letters. He’ll need the more difficult skills of being able to concentrate, pay attention and sit still before he can fully benefit at school – and these skills need to be developed.
When your child first arrives in the classroom he will be getting used to a new place, filled with lots of new faces and he is getting used to being away from mummy and daddy. It goes without saying that this can be very frightening for a lot of children.
Books will be a wonderful part of you child’s learning process. Before she can say the word ’cake’ she will show her understanding of the word by trying to eat it off the page! Her understanding of actions will be much better than her understanding...
