Nursery Décor 101
Decorating your baby’s nursery is among the most fun of your pre-baby projects, but translating your personal aesthetic into something baby friendly and maximizing your budget aren’t without their challenges. Don't sweat it — here are some basic tips to help you with the process.
Color scheming. Choose a color scheme that’s easy to live with for a while — and don’t feel committed to played-out color clichés like blue or pink. Soft taupes, grays and yellows can serve as a great backdrop for all that bright-colored baby gear. Test out your top three choices by painting swatches in the nursery for a week and see how they’ll really look when the sun streams in.
Fitting in furniture. When shelling out for big-ticket items, like furniture, you'll want to pick pieces that will grow with your family. A sturdy crib that converts through the stages of your kid's life is a sweet staple to score. Hey, a well-engineered piece could potentially take your kid from birth until college!
Cleanable choices. Since babies can't control their bodies for the first years of their lives, they won’t be a lot of help in the tidiness department. Consider nursery textiles and surfaces that are not only easy on the eyes, but are easy to clean. After all, isn’t it hard enough to differentiate between baby wipes and disinfectant at 3 am?
