My Weird Pregnancy Cravings
Shared by Amanda
Mention you're pregnant to folks who have never been with child, and there’s a strong possibility the first thing they’ll ask is if you've been gorging on pickles and ice cream. A weird cliché -- true -- but strange pregnancy cravings are completely common.
For me, they came on strong during the second trimester with both of my kids. My son wanted carbs of all kinds. Carbs inside of carbs. Carbs with a side of carbs. Pasta and potatoes were a particular favorite. Weird together? Yes, but eventually I realized gnocchi was a socially acceptable way to sate both cravings in a single dish.
My daughter all but made me a vegetarian -- and I've never met a fried chicken leg I didn't love. I craved veggies and grapes. Lots and lots of purple grapes. With a side of dark chocolate. Not that odd on the scale of weirdness, but it was a mighty strong compulsion.
One friend of mine would slather cinnamon and raisin bagels with French onion dip. The kind you make with sour cream and a package of French onion soup mix. Now that's weird.
Even celebs are not immune to the power of sudden onset out there cravings. I’ve read tales of gorgeous, fit actresses scarfing everything from banana toffee pie to Pop Tarts slathered in butter during their pregnancies.
So if you're having weird pregnancy cravings, fear not! I learned that it’s usually a passing phase. Once that baby showed up, I was lucky if I had time to eat, let alone combine odd ingredients!
