Why does my toddler pretend to be her baby cousins?
Erica Montgomery
Although you don’t specifically say so, I’m guessing your daughter's cousins are younger than she is and perhaps are “real” babies. If so, they may get more attention than she does, and she is simply expressing sibling rivalry. She’s jealous of them, so she pretends to be them. When she does that during the evening with you, I would comment in a matter-of-fact way that she can pretend to be Baby Natalie or Baby Philip during the day when she’s with her daddy and her grandparents, but not when she’s at home with you. If she continues, let her play the game but ignore her when she does. My prediction is that the pretense will soon stop if she doesn’t get attention when she does it.
