Is my infant eating enough cereal?
Nazia Mumbai
Congratulations on choosing to breastfeed your baby, Nazia. She will grow well and be healthier because of it!

Your breast milk provides the best nutrition for your baby and because of that, it is not necessary to begin solid foods until after 6 months. Breastfeeding babies younger than 6 months receive all the nutrition they require as long as they nurse between eight to 10 times in a 24–hour period. I'm happy that your baby is sleeping through the night. This usually means that you are feeding her appropriately during the day. By the way, there is no truth that babies sleep better if given cereal at night. In fact, sometimes it makes them gassy if they are too young. Please read our infant feeding series on this website to learn how to introduce solid foods to infants.
