I always whisper into my grandaughter's ear when she leaves, "Did you have fun today?" She gives me a slight smile and whispers back, "Yes." One day while I was visiting their home for dinner, she only allowed me to put her to bed. She touched the side of my cheek and said, "Did you have fun today?" I thought my daughter would faint. She never heard Mackenzie say this before. Now it was my turn to whisper and say, "Yes." I will never forget those words or the touch of her hand on my cheek. I am the luckiest woman in the world.

Last Halloween my 4-year-old grandson wanted to be Woody (from Toy Story). His mom, being a teacher, sat him down and explained that even though he didn't have a real gun, guns were very dangerous. She is a great teacher of 1st graders and he got some very good reasons why they are dangerous. She then asked him what he should do if someone has a gun. His answer was "duck."

I was reading the story Goldilocks to my three-year old granddaughter, Ainhoa. When we reached the picture of Goldilocks sleeping in the little bear's bed, she asked: Abu, where's the TV in that bedroom?

My 3-year-old grandaughter just started preschool. She went to the nurse's office to get her height and weight checked. The nurse handed her a pair of sunglasses to play with and she replied, "I can't wear these. My mom said if you wear other people's glasses you will go blond."

My son-in-law had a bad experience with their family pet, and so he found a good home for their dog. But, Lexie had been a part of the family at the birth of my grandbaby, up until about a year of age. My grandbaby loved the dog, but was a little cautious of it -- Lexie was a yellow Lab and very exhuberant to say the least! My grandbaby has continued to love "doggies." And so, one evening when my husband and I were babysitting, we brought along our very mild mannered cocker spaniel puppy, Patrick. My grandbaby walked Patrick around the house by his leash showing him all of her toys and would cry when Patrick had enough and would run off. As I would unload the dishwasher, and water remained in the door of the dishwasher, Patrick came over to lick the water out of the door of the dishwasher. My 2-year-old grandbaby crawled over to the dishwasher and cuddled up right next to Patrick and both of them licked away. I wish I'd had a camera! She said nothing — she's just beginning to talk — but if she could have, she would have barked!

For the present time, I have custody of my 10-year-old grandson. In July of 2009, his mom had a baby girl and about a week ago we went to spend the day with them. When it was time to go home, the little one broke into tears and started calling "Bubba, Bubba," her name for her brother. She pushed me away when I tried to say good bye to her and her mom said she cried all night. She did not want her brother to go home. Now someone tell me that an 18-month-old doesn't understand when her big brother has to leave.
