Fortunately, my grandchildren are all near me. I do telephone them if I have not seen them for a while.
-Linda, Grandma to three
Since my grandchildren are still young, I send them cards, talk to them on the phone and send e-mails that their mommy and daddy read to them. I also use e-mail to send pictures. They love to receive boxes I send with little surprises in them, like a pair of new shoes, a T-shirt from a place we visited or even a trinket, toy or coloring book I see at the store that makes me think of them. This way, even though we only get to see them on holidays, they still know I am thinking about them and care about them the whole year.
-Pattie, Grammie to two
I live close to my granddaughter, but a friend of mine plays online “Club Penguin” with her grandchild.
-Christine, Grandma to one
When we are not with our 2½-year-old grandson we keep in touch using the Web cam. We hold things up to the camera and have him tell us what it is. I plan on making flash cards and helping him learn the alphabet over the computer. Plus, I do anything silly just to get him laughing. Our grandson is on the other side of the world, so we do the best we can with the Web cam.
-Nancy, Grandma to one
Our grandchildren live several states away. We always talk on the phone, and we also write letters every week. We have been writing letters since they started kindergarten. They look forward to receiving the mail. It keeps us close, and they will have memories to share. I also look forward to receiving their letters.
-Dottie, Grandma to ten
Our 13-month-old granddaughter lives on the other side of the country. In the past year, we have made it a priority to see her five to six times in order to help build a bond between us. We also keep in touch on a regular basis by phone and e-mail. Just recently, we ordered Web cams so we can visually connect with the family. We have heard good things about them and hope that this will help enhance our relationship with Maizie and the family.
