3 speed R/C We own Spencer 3 speed R/C. I read all these negative reviews and remember that when my boy got it we also couldn't make it work; and then I realized that this vehicle takes batteries in REMOTE, in the ENGINE and also in the TRUCK area. After that it worked great. My boy loves it; because he can control speed. Four stars is because it doesn't have turn on/off switch on remote, but goes dormant when is put in stop mode, and eats batteries quickly. Otherwise it's my sons favorite FP Thomas R/C. He prefers it over old ones. I personally think that old ones batteries lasted looonger. I would recommend this toy. January 12, 2013

Worked off and on for a few months I have tried everything again and again. I have replaced every battery this thing has even the remote batteries. Worst thing is this infra red not radio controlled. Maybe the "R/C" was suppose to mean "Remote Control". So if its on a track that say goes under the bed or behind something and you try to change speed or direction you can forget it. It like the TV remote, if something is in the way you can forget controlling it. Also if it get far enough away it will not read the remote either. It eats batteries. You might as well buy stock in battery company if you buy this thing. And its not leaving it "ON", its leaving the batteries in it. If its not played with in a couple of days you might as well replace batteries as soon as it gets picked up. Mine at this point only remote works. When you try to get train to move it just kind of small little bitty jump forward. Dont blink cause you will miss it. Remote sound works just fine. My son runs around switching from one of the speeds to stop to hear the brakes and chugging. Really poorly thought out product. Who ever came up with it does not have kids. Bluetooth would work better than this. Atleast with bluetooth you can sync so exact remote runs exact train. Would really be neat to see class 1 bluetooth on this. So if you have 2 kids that want Thomas, they both can have it. I have not tried it yet but figure if you got two "R/C Thomas" in same room it would be a battle between remotes. Have not tried to look thru camera to see if remote IR LEDs are working yet. Guess thats next. $30 down the drain. And now they sell the old style for $15.00 on here. I have heard its better. Anyway, so much for "R/C Thomas". Also if you turn off Thomas with switch on Thomas the motor stays engaged so you cant even play with Thomas without remote control. October 30, 2012
Major problem Bought 3 speed RC James. Got it home. Didn't work at all. Took it all the way back to the store (1 hour round trip) and exchanged it for 3 speed RC Thomas thinking James must have been faulty. Got it home. Didn't work at all !! Checked on line and read many, many complaints of the same issue. I am very disappointed in Fisher Price. Clearly there is a design flaw. We have many Trackmaster toys so this is unusual and unacceptable. Worst of all is a very disappointed 6 year old son ! Look for complaints and do something about them Fisher Price.
