Q:
My 12-month-old was standing and walking around furniture. We thought she was ready to walk on her own and then she stopped and only sits now. If I try to walk with her she refuses and sits down immediately. Will she try again soon?
A:
As you observe your daughter you will notice how she, at times, will show signs of growth and then fall back to an earlier stage of development. Children do not grow by consistently advancing forward. They progress and then they regress. This is normal. Your daughter is telling you she is not ready to walk, so don't push it. As you sense she is ready to try again, be there for her and help out. In the meantime, just relax. Chances are that by the time you read my response, your 12-month-old is trying to walk again.
