What low amniotic fluid means
By Craig L. Bissinger

Amniotic fluid helps bathe the baby while it is in the uterus. The fluid volume tends to peak in the third trimester and eventually begins to reduce near the due date. We find the level of fluid to be one indicator of the health of the pregnancy. When we notice a reduction in the overall amount of fluid, it raises a red flag. Is the baby doing okay? Why is the level lowering? In my practice I consider delivery once the fluid level drops. I presume that your physician will also be thinking about this option.

As for your other questions, the low fluid level will not trigger labor nor would I stop labor if it were to occur.
