Q:
Am I able to get pregnant while I'm pregnant?
A:
It is not possible to get pregnant once you are already pregnant.
Becoming pregnant requires the union of sperm and egg. Once conception occurs and a new pregnancy begins to grow in your uterus, your body no longer releases an egg each month. In fact, ovulation—the release of an egg from your ovaries—will not resume until a few months following childbirth.
Because of these physiologic realities, there is no need to use a contraceptive method during pregnancy. Some pregnant women, however, continue using condoms to minimize the risk of acquiring a sexually transmitted infection (STI) from a partner at risk for one.
