- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups flour
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Measure the water and sugar into a large bowl. Stir until the sugar is almost dissolved, then sprinkle the yeast into the water. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
- Add the salt and flour to the mixture and mix until the dough forms a ball. Knead on a floured surface until the dough is smooth.
- Cut the dough into small pieces, or pull off enough dough to form balls about 11/2 inches in diameter. Help your child roll the balls into ropes about 12 inches long.
- Twist the dough ropes into pretzel shapes and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Brush the pretzels with beaten egg and bake them for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
