Will loud music harm my unborn baby?
Q: I like going to rock concerts. My mum says it’s bad for the baby. I can’t believe she’s right, but sometimes it gets me nervous. I figured I’d find out the right answer.
A: It’s safe to listen to loud music. Keep in mind, however, that your baby will not hear the music clearly. Imagine yourself submerged in a swimming pool listening to loud music. It will be muffled at best. With loud music, the vibrations will move through the abdomen and be felt by the baby.

A baby can hear sound in the mid-to-late second trimester. Many babies respond to the sound and move around. I’ve had patients tell me their baby loved a certain band or CD.
