We’re having difficulty conceiving again
Q: We’re trying to have another child, but we’re becoming discouraged. How many days out of the month is a woman fertile, and when is the best time to conceive?
A: The egg can be fertilized for approximately 24 hours. This means that you should time intercourse to coincide with ovulation (egg release).

There are several ways to figure out ovulation. The simplest way is to look at your cervical mucous. At mid-cycle it will become very stringy, clear and plentiful.

Some women prefer to keep track of their menstrual cycle. To do this, subtract 14 days from your typical cycle length. For example, if you have a 30-day cycle, just subtract 14 days; your mid-cycle is around day 16.

In both cases, one should have relations every other day around the suspected ovulation time.

Some of my patients also use home ovulation kits. These urine tests detect a rise in the hormones that trigger ovulation.

If these methods don’t help you achieve your goal, it may be time to speak with your physician. As for the right time to move forward with fertility treatment, it depends on the individual couple.
