My husband and I are wondering what role he can play in the delivery room. How should we prepare for this?
Each doctor/hospital has its own policy about the role of the dad in the delivery/birthing room. In my experience, dad’s first and foremost job is to be your support and coach. Taking classes in advance will help make him comfortable in this role. He is also the photographer/video man. And in many cases, he will be cutting the umbilical cord. His last job is to follow the baby through his or her journey to the newborn nursery and back again. If you have specific requests for your husband’s role, speak with your doctor.
