We are Americans living abroad and my 3½-year-old is not as far advanced in language as I’d like. He has words and two-word phrases in English and German but nothing more. Is it possible that his language is slowed because he’s absorbing two languages at once? At home we only speak English, but in public we speak German. Patrick is an only child to older parents. When I stand behind him and give him a command, he obeys, so I don’t believe that there is a hearing problem. He’s just not talking as much as I think he should be. No sentences, not even partial sentences.
