Before long, babies begin to realise that people are distinct individuals. This realisation is what first led to baby’s desire to imitate you, and this insight also paves the way for another—that baby is part of a human network. Your baby will demonstrate this awareness by beginning to include others in the fun. You’ll be handed a favourite toy to inspect and enjoy, for example. As baby becomes more socially aware, you’ll get more of a sense of your little one’s personality. You might ask your child to hand you a toy; with a playful glint in the eye, your little one may offer a different one. This shows that baby is developing a sense of humour.
