Q:
My daughter has been going to gymnastics for almost two years but lately has been making excuses to not go. Should I take her out of the class, or will this pass?
A:
Children are like adults in that they sometimes lose interest in an activity that used to be fun. Ask your child what she would prefer doing. Suggest that she might want to take a vacation from gymnastics for a while and move on to another sport or an activity such as dancing, art or music lessons.
Also, make sure nothing has changed at gymnastics that may be discouraging her. Sometimes, a child is disappointed when a new teacher takes over. Perhaps the current teacher is being hard on her, or other kids are picking on her. It just may be that the sport's too hard for her. Before you assume that she's just grown tired of gymnastics, first rule out these possibilities.
