Q:
I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy and have a watery discharge. Is my water trying to break?
A:
Watery vaginal discharge is common throughout pregnancy. The discharge comes from helpful bacteria living in the vagina. Although you may think this is disgusting, the bacteria is performing a very important role, keeping bad bacteria away from the baby. Most of my patients wear a mini-pad as the pregnancy progresses. It is a nuisance, but not the end of the world.
As far as the bag of water is concerned, it is an all or none phenomena … it either breaks, or it doesn't. So please don't worry. You can do little to control when and how your water will break.
