Is it safe to store vitamins near the microwave?
Q: We have herbs and vitamins in a cupboard next to the microwave and want to know if their potency is compromised because of their proximity to it. If so, how far away does they need to be? Also, are they compromised if they're close to the stove?

A: Microwave ovens are shielded, so I don't think you have to worry about your herbs and vitamins. Storing them near the stove is another matter. Many of these items are sensitive to heat and should be stored in cool, dry areas. Since you live in Los Angeles I would even recommend storing them in the refrigerator unless you have air conditioning. Exposing herbs, vitamins and many medications to sunlight can also damage them, so don't store them on a windowsill.
