Q:
My daughter recently turned 1 year old, and has begun gritting her teeth! The sound is very unnerving, and I am worried about her harming her teeth. How do I get her to stop?
A:
Grinding or gritting teeth is a very common occurrence and we see a lot of this as children's teeth are just coming in. The sound can be very loud and unnerving, especially at night. It sounds like rocks rolling over each other and can get quite loud. As long as she isn't chipping or physically wearing down her teeth, this is usually not a problem and most children outgrow this condition. You should mention this, though, to her pediatrician and dentist.
