Should I wash baby's gums?
Q: My child is 2 months old. My mother said I should use a wet washcloth to gently massage the gums in order to stimulate them and get both of us used to daily cleanings. Do you think this is the way to go?
Kerry Oakridge
A: Your mother's right. This is a great habit for both you and your child to start now. The concept of cleaning gums after a feeding is a great way to introduce the pattern of tooth brushing after eating. This is a good way to establish a lifetime of good oral health. And a wet washcloth is an effective way to gently clean the gums.
