Can I continue going to my chiropractor now that I’m pregnant? They say that chiropractic care positively affects the nervous system and can save me from undue tiredness, aches and pains, as well as stress from my body stretching to accommodate a baby. I just want to be sure that this is an accepted route, and that this treatment can make a difference.
Chiropractic care can be continued during most pregnancies as long as you’re working with a chiropractor skilled in pregnancy care.
Pregnancy stresses your spine through a combination of weight gain, hormonal changes and a shift in your centre of gravity. This can result in muscle strains, low back pain and leg pain. Chiropractic doctors can address musculoskeletal problems in pregnancy. Deep tissue massage and gentle manipulations can provide welcome relief and prevent distress, especially during later pregnancy.
A chiropractor may be able to recommend specific exercises to improve your sense of well-being and suggest ergonomic improvements to help prevent further discomfort. While I have often referred patients with back pain to specific chiropractors, speak with your own doctor before pursuing chiropractic care during your pregnancy.
