My 16-month-old baby fell and chipped his front tooth. Should I take him to the dentist to have this fixed? Will his permanent teeth be okay?
When a child falls and chips a tooth, a dentist should evaluate it. When a tooth sustains a blow hard enough to crack off a piece, there may be inflammation on the inside of the tooth that may get so severe the tooth abscesses. There may also be a root fracture that should be evaluated. The permanent tooth is forming at this age, right by the tip of the baby tooth's root, and it may have been injured as well. A dentist can help you with all these possible scenarios, and I recommend you have your baby examined.
