Is it true that playing music for our unborn baby is good for him/her?
Q: We are expecting our first baby. We’ve heard that playing music for the baby now, before it’s even born, may be good for the baby and will help us bond more quickly. Is this true and if so, is there a certain type of music we should play?

A: Dear Shaun and Lindsey,

It’s great to see that you are already taking on your role as new parents! Talking to your baby and playing music are both ways to begin bonding with this child who will be entering your family. While classical music is great, having a variety of musical exposures will be fine. I knew a professional musician who was pregnant while recording one of her folk-rock albums. After the birth, her baby would curl up into the fetal position when her mum’s music was played. Enjoy exposing your baby to different kinds of music, as long as the volume isn’t too loud, and talk to your baby. When your baby is born, see what kind of response you get when you play familiar music.
