Stacking toys that encourage eye-hand coordination
Why your baby will enjoy this toy now:
Stacking toys give your baby experience in problem solving and the joy of accomplishment. Conquering little challenges helps children find their own answers and prepares them to tackle the next question.
What you can do to help your baby learn more with:
Let your child be the discoverer and explorer with this toy, because that’s the joy of play! This toy is self-correcting in that when baby puts the rings on in size order, from biggest to littlest, they automatically fall into place. But it’s just as successful for baby to put them on in the wrong order and discover something than it is to do it right every time.
“What comes next?” Introduce sequencing by laying the rings out flat on the floor, with the biggest ring at one end and the smallest at the other; place them along a straight line, such as the edge of a carpet, so baby can easily see how they progress from smallest to biggest. Talk about the sizes of the rings, beginning with the extremes: “This is the biggest ring, this is the smallest.” Eventually you can introduce the in-between sizes.
Use this toy for language learning: you can talk about the colours; bigger and smaller; top and bottom; “Which ring comes next?” By putting words to what is happening with the toy, you’re helping your child understand the concepts behind language. And by experiencing a concept, your child will internalise it.
All children develop at their own pace, and reach milestones at different times. The highlights mentioned in this web site are meant as approximate guidelines only. If you have any questions about your child's development, consult your healthcare provider.
